A Meeting of Minds for a Greener Tomorrow

Dr. Richard Bonyo, a renowned expert in project planning, moderated the event’s discussions. His leadership guided participants through critical topics such as climate change adaptation, mitigation strategies, and regenerative agriculture. These themes highlighted the urgency of innovative approaches to ensure sustainable solutions for Africa’s environmental and agricultural challenges.

Key Discussions: Bridging Policy and Action

During the panel discussions, Dr. Bonyo posed incisive questions that sparked meaningful dialogue. One such question explored the nexus between climate change and rights-based programming, delving into how climate policies can align with human rights to protect vulnerable populations.

Panelists also examined the government’s role in facilitating local climate initiatives through FLOCCA (Financing Locally-Led Climate Action). They called for increased efforts to connect funding mechanisms with grassroots organizations. Emphasis was placed on ensuring resources reach the lowest levels without bureaucratic bottlenecks or misappropriation.

Representatives like Dickens Adanje of Green Leaf Kenya and Jakenya from HAFIFE emphasized the importance of local action, while NEMA’s Brenda Obura highlighted the role of structured government partnerships in achieving meaningful impact.

The discussions resonated with a clear message: the fight against climate change requires personal accountability and collective responsibility.

Youth and Collaboration: The Cornerstones of Change

A recurring theme was the pivotal role of youth as the torchbearers of sustainability. The panel underscored the need to empower young people with the tools and knowledge to lead climate action within their communities. Education and awareness were championed as the most effective ways to engage the youth demographic and amplify their impact.

Mr. Moses Ojunju, CEO of GFCCA, stressed the importance of inter-organizational collaboration in addressing climate challenges. He emphasized that partnerships enhance impact, enabling organizations to pool resources and expertise for greater results. Moses also urged the government to address funding gaps and fix systemic loopholes to prevent resource embezzlement.

"The climate change war is global by nature and the war on climate change is individual but needs others be won.”
